Estancia Caiman and the cattle raising
One of the activities carried out within the Caiman Ecological Refuge is beef cattle. Under the auspices of Estancia Caiman, this operation is run seeking to adapt its practices to the Pantanal's environment searching for the best integration possible between the cattle and nature.
The Pantanal is favorable for cattle ranching with minimal impact to nature, as it is natural open grassland, much different from what the Amazon and Cerrado regions offer, where forested areas have to be destroyed for the activity. The combination of these conditions and the existence of vast properties in the region give support for both domestic and wild animals allowing also the conservation of the local flora.
Taking adavantage of the knowhow accumulated in the same region (the old Miranda Estancia ranch) and sharing its operational territory with activities such as ecotourism and scientific researches, Estancia Caiman handles more than 20 thousand cattle in its property.
The Caiman Lodge and Ecotourism
When ecotourism was still a new concept, the Caiman Lodge began its activities. In these more than 20 years of existence, ecotourism has specially helped Caiman Ecological Refuge and the Pantanal as a whole, to find within this activity, yet another option to conserve the Pantanal and, at the same time, provide its development.
Caiman Ecological Refuge is comprised by two independent lodges within the ranch. The lodges differ in their architectonic characteristics with the purpose to blend with the nature that surrounds them. All were built with identical charm, sophistication and comfort.
The Caiman Community
At Caiman Ecological Refuge, there are 180 people among employees and their families. Their activities are divided between the Caiman Lodge and Estancia Caiman.
All the inhabitants collaborate for the maintenance of the social and environmental commitment of Caiman Ecological Refuge.
The families and single employees who dwell in the CER receive all the necessary infrastructure for adequate housing besides the installed medical/dentistry station and school for their kids.
